Glass
Glass is no longer as popular as it used to be and isn’t used much these days. Pro’s to using glass is there are no chemicals that can leech into the food and also glass is 100% recyclable making it better for the environment than other forms of packaging. A Con for Glass bottles is that when glass smashes it breaks into shards and sharp pieces. It is also heavier than other forms of packaging. It also produces chemicals like Sulphur Dioxide during manufacturing.bottlegroup.jpg

Aluminium
Aluminium is not as popular as plastic but still used for things such as cool drink cans. Aluminium is popular because of its high level of corrosion resistance. It provides protective barrier to light, ultra-violet rays, water vapor, oils and fats, oxygen and micro-organisms. The aluminium barrier also plays the essential role of keeping the content fresh, guaranteeing a long shelf life. Aluminium is also lighter than most other packaging options and aluminium is recyclable. A Con to Aluminium is difficult and expensive to refine into aluminium.

POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE
Plasticis the most popular form of packaging used in modern day. Plastic is most popular because it is cheap, lightweight, strong and durable. The down side to POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE is they contain chemicals such as BPA’s that are toxic to the human body. Plastic is also non-
recyclable and made from crude oil making it bad for the environment

Shrink Wrap
Shrink-wrap is commonly used on products where tamper-protection is a high priority, such as CDs or DVDs. After the item is wrapped, heat is applied to make the wrap shrink to fit. Because it creates such a tight seal and keeps moisture out, shrink-wrap can also be used to package food items. http://www.ehow.com/about_5386733_different-types-packaging-materials.html

To summarise:
Glass is good for the environment and good for your health but more brittle and prone to smashing.
Aluminium is good for extending shelf life and is lighter than glass but the aluminium must be mined making bad for the environment.
Plastic is cheap, lightweight, strong and durable but contain toxic chemicals and cannot be recycled.
